What's sad is it's not that hard to have a gay or disabled character. In the recent tv movie/failed pilot "Virtuality (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1219836/)" two of the astronauts on the 10 year mission were gay (out of the 10 or so people there were also 2 married m/f couples) and it was just there- no big deal- two guys shown holding hands, etc occasionally. And then there is paraplegic actor Mitch Longley who successfully starred on two soaps, even having a long, serious discussion with his girlfriend on one about what he could and would not be able to do in bed. (If you ever watched "Las Vegas" he was the guy who worked in security- the show realized after 2/3 years that while he was always seen seated, it'd never been shown he was actually in a wheelchair so they had an episode about it)

It CAN be done right, why is it done wrong so often?
