The only other thing I could think of would be possibly something happening to Hunith and Arthur at the same time, or Uther thinking Merlin was just being distracted and incompetent again, then discovering he was distraught over losing a woman in childbirth while helping Gaius. As for the magic, I think if it's not blatant, and it helps him or his son or his kingdom, he would "accidentally" look away. :)
Nope, there's another one other than The Old Ways. Very cool that you liked that one though. I keep editing and re-editing this one because the voice seems off somehow. It's a bit more explicit than the other one, and Merlin's a bit manipulative in it, in his own way.
