cat_77 | Who Knew?

I was just looking up info on "Transformers" (for my kids, I swear, er, really?) and just discovered something. Peter Cullen, the man that does the voice for Optimus Prime (as in always) is pretty much responsible for my childhood. This man has played a role/voiced a character in pretty much every show I ever grew up with from "Transformers" to "G.I. Joe" to "Voltron" to "Rainbow Brite" and "My Little Pony", not to mention "TaleSpin" and "Rescue Rangers". He was even in "The Gremlins" and "Monchichis" (which no one seems to remember any more).

In other "Transformers" news, apparently one of my favorites of all time, "Bubblebee" has been changed from a VW Bug to a Camero because VW would not give them the rights to use the Bug. In the words of my partner, "Why the hell would they give up the chance at all that advertising?" Sigh. It just won't be the same.

A lot of the cartoons of the 80s shared the same vocal cast. In fact, in the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon, Peter Cullen was cast as Venger because of his previous work in animation. Some voice actors even performed under different names because of rule stating that they could only voice up to 3 characters a session.

You know, when I was at the theatre, somebody lost a Monchichi, and I snapped it up, but the bastids I worked with literally tore it apart.

And... Bumblebee is a Camero??? Seriously, I agree with your partner. The hell?
