NaNoWriMo and More
Okay, so I did it. I signed up for NaNoWriMo for the first time. I'm part nervous and part excited about this. I guess we'll see how it all turns out.
In other news, I was also introduced to True Blood this weekend in a marathon session. It's actually surprisingly decent. If there's a cliché, they point it out, which I always like. Plus there are intriguing characters, a decent plot, and pretty much always a cliffhanger to get you to watch the next one.
No, I still haven't finished the fics I wanted to finish by the end of the month. I have one week left to do so, and it's not looking good. I'm swamped at work (400 in my route, with most people averaging around 300, except Slacker Boy, who is at 200) and tired when I get home, making me less than productive. I have the beginning of the Left Behind series in beta right now, but not much extra progress on Small Issue or Avalanche. I'll try, but no promises at this point.
In other, other news, had a horrible migraine this morning that may or may not be related to the sudden drop in temp and the fact it was snowing here this morning. It's down to a dull ache, so at least there's that.
But, the most important thing:

I'm on the fence about NaNoWriMo for much the same reasons as you. Still haven't decided if I'll take the plunge. There is a specific WIP that I have in mind for this, though, which has barely been started OR I have another story I could start in on. I'm going to keep mulling it over for the next couple of days.
Oh, and I managed to stave off a migraine yesterday brought on by weather change. I kept it down in the "God-Awful Headache With Limited Vision" range thanks to Fioricet and a nap.

I think one of the rules is that you start fresh on Nov 1 - no pre-existing pages. You can have outlines and notes and whatnot, but I don't think you're supposed to technically have any of the actual story started beyond that.
Re: Migraines - I should have known it was coming when my vision got wonky last night, but I hoped for the best instead. I have no prescription meds for them. By now, I know I should, but that involves doctors, which is always an "experience" for me - long story involving screw ups I just don't have the patience for. I've used homeopathic aides mixed with Excedrin in the past. Current best for numbing it down is a combo of Excedrin, Sudophed, and Origins Peace of Mind.

The one story I had started and gotten up to 6,000 words, decided it Just Wasn't Working and stripped away 5,000 of those, completely reworked the plot and had to figure out the terrain for an entire region of a planet and make a detailed map. Time to get started again, though if I used that, I wouldn't count that 950 words toward the total.
The other story is nothing but sketchy notes, not even an outline and that might be the one I go with if I do this.
As for migraines - Excedrine is a life saver. If I can get to that in time, then I can nip it in the bud and not need Fioricet OR a nap. Unfortunately, the migraines brought on by weather change - especially a pressure change like the cold front that move through yesterday or a sudden thunderstorm - are damn near unstoppable. The best I can do is get home while I can still see and crash for a few hours. Ugh. I'll have to check my health food store for that Origins Peace of Mind you mentioned.

Origins is actually available at I think Macy's and they have their own store in MOA. Basically, it's a vasodilator (yeah, I know, I spelled it wrong), but it smells better than Sunbreeze and works pretty well. It's supposed to be a de-stressor type thing but, reading the ingredients, it pretty natural and works the same as others I've found, if not better. The people at the main store said they highly recommend it for headaches and migraines. Smells minty and you put it at your temples and the back of your head (it's kind of like a lotion, but you only use a tiny bit). They now have massage oils and gumballs and candles and such too, but the little bottle works the best. Last time we picked some up, they had a special pink packaging for Breast Cancer Research donations as well, but it's usually blue.

Besides, after what I've heard about Twilight, this is frickin Emmy winning in comparison.
