Story Time

Let me tell you a story.

There was once a young woman who was sweet and kind and became a coven sister to another woman (We’ll call the other woman… 77). 77’s coven sister became like part of the family, her children 97 and 99 called this woman “Auntie” and loved to hang around her and do projects with her. This woman even lived with the family for several months.

Well, time went on and this woman decided that pagans were evil (as were lesbians, for those of you keeping track – the list is quite long, but I’ll keep to the main points). She found a new religion to embrace and cut ties with her previous community and with the people she once called family, no longer calling 97 or 99 her nephews and having no time for their shenanigans or those of their heathen morally corrupt parents. The others went on about their lives, hoping she was happy but, quite frankly, realizing she no longer played a role in their lives.

More time went on and this woman had weight loss surgery and was very proud of the results. She won a makeover on a television show and proudly went around telling people about it, including 77, hoping that they would watch and/or tape the show to share in her joy. The day after the live show was filmed, she happened to come across 77 and mention that, by the way, the picture used to show before the weight loss happened to have 97 and 99 in it, and then she wandered away.

77 thought about it. Then she thought some more. Then she realized she was extremely pissed because no one asked permission for her children’s faces to be broadcast on television. Then she got just that tad bit more upset when she realized the full episode is available on the internet for anyone to see.

Her children, like the rest of her family, try to avoid news cameras, and have even been taught to flip them off to make sure the footage is unusable on the air. Then 77 wondered why a television show would not think to ask permission to air the images of unrelated minors and came to the realization that suddenly this woman was “Auntie” again, if only for a day. Her mother watched the online feed and confirmed this was the case. This did not make her pleased. This in fact, fueled her anger as one should not claim to have ties to something they have blatantly ignored and insulted for multiple years, simply because they believe it to look good.

And thus, the woman who had once been called “Sister” and “Auntie” had a new name: “Bitch”.

Bitch could not understand why 77 was upset. 77 could not find a way to explain it without losing her temper and possibly causing physical harm to Bitch and thus being fired from one of the few stable job markets in this current economy. Whatever was 77 to do?

That’s right, she ranted in her Live Journal about it.

Even if she still was Auntie - putting your children's face up on broadcast and internet without your express permission is a horrible thing to do.

Add in the rest of the story, and make sure you put a capital B on Bitch and add a couple of exclamation marks at the end of it.

I am extremely upset right now. It probably doesn't help matters that she sits one cube behind me in the cube farm and has spent most of the morning making calls about how wonderful the show was. She has no idea a) that I am upset, b) why I am upset, or c) that anything she did could possibly be deemed as wrong.

I have not addressed the issue with her yet, fearing my temper and the workplace. I know her first response will be that I have no right to object as I have no legal standing with the children (way to go, Auntie - if I don't, and I raise them, what the hell right do you have?) and then I will be forced to hit her and then I will get fired.

I would love to see everyone involved in airing this story nailed to the wall. Bitch for lying about her relationship and exploiting 97 and 99, and the network for not following the basic rules of broadcast television. It would be fitting justice if the episode featuring Bitchy McBitchBitch of the New Hampton McBitchBitches was taken down permanently.

Taken down or images blurred or some acknowledgment that it should not have happened and will be remedied.

My alcoholic ex-roomate had better journalism skills than this. [Why yes, I have moved on to insulting the station and the people there at this point.]

you mean kstp? right honey?
