Office Spaced

Please, for the love of all things sacred and holy, someone give me a fic prompt. I’m stuck at work on a Monday morning that has so far involved E spilling coffee on herself, me breaking a nail (not tragic, just annoying), and the servers going down. I am threatening to write AU office crack!fic – and you know I’ll do it.

Edit: No, actually, I did do it. I’d blame [livejournal.com profile] drag_on_king, except I was already writing it when she came over to my desk… Can I blame the fact the printer is now down as well?

Title: Let’s go with the current header of “Office Spaced”
Genre: McShep, AU, Crack
Rating: PG-13

John carefully rolled the small projectile between his fingers, narrowing his eyes slightly to line up his sight. A flick of his wrist and he had hit his target, the small paperclip landing smack dab in the middle of Rodney’s screen.

“Sheppard! What the hell are you doing? Can’t you see I’m working here?” the other man huffed, but refused to turn around.

“I’m bored,” he shrugged as if that was all the explanation needed.

“And flinging little pieces of metal against my monitor is the way to cure that?” Rodney verified.

“I was aiming for the back of your head,” he lied. Another flick of his wrist and another clip glanced off the side of his target’s ear. Damn, he was off on that one. At least it got him to turn around.

Rodney looked annoyed, yet amused at the same time. “I’m going to go out on a limb and assume you don’t want me to fix the database?” he guessed. The stupid thing had gone down at 7:30 that morning, preventing anyone from logging in to do any real work. Surfing the internet was fun and all, but even that got tiring after three hours.

“Can it be fixed?” he baited.

Rodney snorted as he leaned back in his ergonomic chair, arms crossed in front of him. “Anyone else would tell you it was impossible to fix from here,” he agreed. “However, you forget that your computer tech is a computer god and can hack in to the main network and recode it from there.” He smiled smugly.

“Seems like an awful lot of work when you could just take some time to goof off,” John commented, moving on to tossing small stress ball up into the air and catching it deftly.

The computer god raised an eyebrow. “You really don’t want to work your accounts today, do you?”

John just shrugged. “They’ll still be there tomorrow.” He caught the ball once more before tossing it across the aisle to his companion in this wing of cubicle hell. “Besides, no one ever died because it took an extra day to process a claim.”

Rodney nodded, but John could tell he was still tempted to go back to his coding. “What do you suggest we do, sit here and play catch?” Adding action to words, he tossed the ball back.

“That, or we could go to one of the training rooms and do illicit and possibly illegal acts,” John suggested with a grin.

Rodney rolled his eyes. “One track mind, Sheppard,” he groused, but it was clear he had caught his interest. “You want to head off to a public area to participate in sexual escapades and are suggesting this in front of our coworkers?” he clarified.

John looked around. The only coworkers in this area were blithely ignoring them. There were only the four of them anyway; more than likely this was planned by their supervisors who wished to limit the damage they could cause. Well, either that, or because they were the only four who could put up with each other for extended periods of time. “Teyla is busy signing up for some jujitsu tournament and Dex is busy writing something that looks eerily like fan fiction for that crap show he likes so much,” he pointed out.

“Go have your illicit acts, it will give me time to finish this scene,” Ronon called from his cube.

“Just remember to lock the door so no one walks in this time,” Teyla chimed in without looking up.

A broad grin broke out across John’s face. He could always count on those two. “What do you say?” he asked, tossing the ball once more.

The ball came sailing back, landing square in his lap. “You’re on,” Rodney smirked, locking his station and grabbing the key to the training room.

As John stood up to follow, he looked up to the fluorescent lights set into the false ceiling. “I love this job,” he sighed.

You know, when I'm bored at meetings, I imagine John and Rodney doing illicit things on the conference table. *koff* (it really helps with the sleepiness, heh)

Anyway, I love that Ronon's writing fanfic! lol! And Teyla's doing non-official work too. It really helps with the tedium. Too bad at my office there are no hot people like those four.

Btw, I've been meaning to friend you for a while now, so I don't miss out on leaving fb. May I? (I'm a fan of your Mer/Jill stories too) :D

Very cute. Ronon writing fanfic, oy. Of course now I want to know what show he's watching. *g*

Heh, I like all the little details of the scene, and John and Rodney playing catch.

Hee! Thanks! Yeah, unfortunately, my workplace is not quite up to these standards either. Oh well, that's what imagination is for...

Please, feel free to friend away. I have a tendency to forget to friend back, but all you'd be missing is work stuff, family stuff, and a few original fics.

Heh. Thanks! The first thing to pop to mind was "Starcrossed"...

Of course John has a one-track mind, no matter what universe he's in. xD lol. Love this universe!

*snorfle* Ronon writing fanfiction! database repairs: most boring thing on earth. Good thing Rodney has John to save him!

Heh, thanks! Though I have a feeling John might do more than just, er, "save" him... :)
