Random Reading Thingy

I remember growing up and taking trips to the library with my mother. I was in either middle school or maybe a freshman in high school and found a wonderful series that I started reading. I read two books, but was never able to find them again. We did searches through the libraries, book stores, etc, but it seemed it just was not meant to be. (Please remember, this was the late eighties to the early nineties and we did not have the same resources we do today to find things.)

Tonight we stopped by Borders book store and discovered they have been re-released. Reading the author's notes, apparently she received emails and calls stating no one could find them anywhere. A smallish publishing company offered to print "omnibus" versions combining two books per book and they are now available once more.

There is a chance that they won't be as good as I remember but, taking a quick glance while waiting for the boys to have a look around other areas, they still seem to be pretty more than decent.

The series as a whole is called "The Chronicles of the Cheysuli" and involve a race of shapeshifters living beside a race of "normal" humans. The Cheysuli involve mysticism and totems and more than a tad bit of spirituality. The humans live in a near medieval-like society. The parts that I read were well thought out enough to make me look for several years before I gave up and made me more than willing to pick up at least the first in the series now that it is available again.

Anyway, if someone is looking for a good read, I would recommend giving them a try. You can't beat the price of roughly $8 for the equivalent of two books.

I remember those. I started reading them when they first came out, starting when I was in high school. I reread them, so that says a lot. I'm usually so busy trying to read new stuff I don't reread much.

Just checked the author's website, and she's working on another trilogy set in this universe. No publication dates yet though.

Exactly - it was good enough to stick with you enough to think about reading it again - which is a rarity for me as well.

I rather liked that (at least from what I remember) it started out as "Men = Warrior, Women = Need to be Protected" and then changed to "Men = Kidnapped, Woman = Kicking Ass While Pregnant" - it made me giggle.
