Star Trek

Saw the new Star Trek movie. Don't worry, no spoilers!

Just wanted to say how awesome it was. Yes, there are parts that make you go, "Er..." but there is also so much fan service throughout. There are quotes and actions and background characters with absolutely no lines that just happen to look damn near identical to characters from every series ever aired and more.

There are parts E and I squeed at that the boys did not understand but really, that's just like an excuse to introduce them to some of the original canon, right?

In summary, if you are remotely a Star Trek fan, you will probably enjoy at least one aspect of this movie, really you will.

Edit: Slight spoilers for secondary characters in the comments.

Did you notice Paul McGillion? Sadly, I did not. He was in the huge hangar scene and I guess I was too o.O at the set and the antics of Kirk and McCoy. And Uhura henpecking Spock. Heh.

I honestly did not. I had forgotten he was in it until I was reading up on some of the stuff later. E says she saw him though.

My favorite bit was Kirk and the green-skinned girl. I thought that was a particularly humorous bit of fan service.

I loved it for three reasons: 1) the whole Kirk sexing up anyone he could, 2) the shout out to the fascination with the Orion slave girls, and 3) the fact that, traditionally, she was a slave and now she's a fucking Starfleet Officer, a total 180 from slave to respected leader of society.

I found out that the actress playing the Orion girl is also playing Scarlett in the G. I. Joe movie in August. She'll be a pin-up in fanboy basements for sure.

She probably is already. :)
