Still recovering from having to take large amounts of antihistamines and asthma meds due to accidental exposure to peanuts. Thing is, it's not even something I ate. It's something someone one row over at work ate. This sucks.
We have a no nut policy at work because there are enough of us with allergies. Problem is the last time a memo went out about it was about 2-3 years and 30-40 employees ago (we've grown a lot) and they have not continued to let the newbies know about it. It also doesn't hurt that our very own vending machines sell bags of peanuts and tons of peanut candies. Rule is you can have them in the break room, but not in the open areas or at your desk. Yeah, that's working...
My partner is concerned at how severe the reaction was this time. Peanut allergies are protein based which means the reaction tends to grow in severity with each exposure. This time, I had trouble breathing, flushed red, had my fingers start swelling and started shaking. I took some OTC antihistamines, some homeopathic asthma stuff, and made it home to dose up on Benadryl.
I think I may need to look into renewing my inhaler (which is completely gone) if this continues. I'm also debating asking management to resend the memo, cause this really kind of sucks, is rather frightening, and I don't even have the most severe reactions in the department.
