Per [livejournal.com profile] tejas’s request based on fic writers making stupid assumptions, a brief rundown of the different weather patterns where I live and some basic info on how to survive them.

The economy sucks - yes, this is true. Think of all the things you are currently doing without, or cutting back on, or are choosing the less expensive option for just so you can afford something else you might need like groceries. Then think of the people who were on a tight budget before all of this happened and how this may be affecting them. Then think of their kids.

Tons of children will be going without this winter. I'm not just talking about toys, but clothing, winter gear, books for school, and even the makings for lunch and supplies for school projects that the schools themselves cannot provide due to budget cuts of their own.

Try to keep this in mind while you are out trying to scrape together either your holiday celebration, or just your nightly meal. Maybe pick up an extra can or two of soup and put it in the donation bin on your way out the door, or take that bit of spare change you were going to go buy a hot chocolate with and put it in one of the little red buckets instead, or maybe go buy on your own or get together with a friend or coworker and pick up a toy or coat or mittens or a hat and drop it off at one of the very many nearly empty bins around your town.

You think your life is hard right now with all the crap going around? Remember, there is always someone who's life sucks even more than your own.
