Pagan...

So I joined two local Pagan-based groups on the evil that is FB to a) support the community a bit, b) try to be more actively involved in the community, and c) keep advised of some of the big things going on. Roughly 90% of recent posts are spam-like in nature. You should not need to wade through that much crap to find out what's going on.

One group sends me weekly requests to join other groups that appear to be the same group with a slightly different spelling, or new groups that I have no interest in. One group keeps requesting money, but doesn't say what it's for (they are related to this community center thing that's trying to get off the ground, but considering that costs an arm and a leg to actively join... no) and seems to already have money mismanagment issues. People have asked me to friend them, but it seems some are pyramid schemes, some are crystal lickers*, and some are crystal lickers with pyramid schemes.

It is highly disorganized and rather reminding me why I stepped back from the community in the first place. I miss the "old days" when you could do a ritual or three together, get updated on people's lives, and maybe plan to do something more together. There was a once yearly event to help raise money by people selling their crafts and donating a percentage to pay for space to use. Not intrusive at all, really. Now, it's like they expect you to have funds to spare (in this economy even) and those and more should be directly funneled into this semi-corporate scheme with no real benefits of things like community or, well, fun.

Debating leaving the groups and getting my info secondhand from old coven members. Might be easier/less stressful in the long run.

* I define crystal lickers as people who are more worried about what they look like doing a ritual and whether or not they have the latest/shiniest/most expensive tools they can find to work with and usually don't ever want to get their pretty little wand dirty or risk the hem of their velvet-lined, faux elkskin robe that they paid extra to have embroidered by fairies raised solely on sunshine and light and cookies.

I would leave. Crystal lickers with pyramid schemes deserve a special place in (insert horrible afterlife place here).

It's a combo of frustrating and annoying. Want to stay in touch with people who have a clue, but the main comms seem infected with morons and opportunists. Blech.
