I'm Calling It
The word “bromance” has had its fifteen minutes of fame.
It’s now not much more than an excuse used by producers and their ilk to try to court the slashers to come watch their series, but to never have to go anywhere with it. They can then turn around and be surprised that slash fic is being written because “it’s not a romance, it’s a bromance.” The same reasoning is then used by anti-slashers in their arguments that it’s not canon so they can please go away now.
I’m sorry, but slashers are not about to go away. Really. If we can find a way to get two characters together that have not even been in the same scene together and/or are straight and happily married in canon, we will find a way to hook up two guys hanging all over each other and sharing more than just meaningful looks.
It’s just that you now made our job easier.

Not in the same scene, or show, or time-space continuum... truly, we are creative and persistent. :D
And why should producers get surprised? These people are would be marketing victims, amirite? Just ask the actors to be friendly with each other and up the physical and emotional scenes between them... you've got GOLD. Its the crazy slashers who buy all the dvds and merchandise and go to cons in droves and whatnot. Honestly.

It's the crazy slashers with their outpouring of talent in new and interesting
and possibly lewdways that make some of the best creations out there, delving into personalities and personal histories and giving some characters more depth than canon ever allotted them.
