She played the role beautifully.
She accepted the constant stream of visitors asking after her health and well-being, dolled up in the finest silk and most delicate of jewelry, hair twisted ever so carefully into place by her loyal maid. She would blink, wide-eyed with the innocence expected of her, as she was told of the heroic rescue attempts and their costs on the men and the kingdom she dutifully sang the praises of.
And at night she planned the demise of the man she called king, wishing for the day when this joke of a sovereignty would finally end.
