Yuletide Recs
These are my recs so far. I'll try to remember to update as I read more.
First and foremost is, of course, the awesome Alphas fic written for me. :)
Binary Data (1202 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Alphas

Characters: Gary Bell, Dr. Lee Rosen, Bill Harken
Summary: For Gary Bell, it's all yes/no, black/white, right/wrong...but something is changing. A snapshot of a morning in Gary's life.
Reason I liked it: It is Gary, through and through.
Then I started on other fandoms I like.
Set The Wall Between Us As We Go (5304 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Old Kingdom - Garth Nix
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sabriel (Old Kingdom), Lirael (Old Kingdom), Nicholas Sayre, Prince Sameth
Summary: “Father left many secrets behind when he died,” Sabriel says. “I only wish he had told me of you earlier, I would have liked to have a sister to share my battles with.”
Reason I liked it: Sabriel and Lirael are the same, yet so very different. Loved how this explored both Lirael's exposure to Sabriel's world, and to her family.
A Brief History of Liars (2121 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Old Kingdom - Garth Nix
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Yrael/Astarael
Summary: A history, a love, an ending.
Reason I liked it: the thought of Yrael and Astarael, two near mystical beings, with oh so human and mundane feelings like the bother that is love.
Night Flying (2163 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Old Kingdom - Garth Nix
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Lirael/Nicholas Sayre (Old Kingdom)
Characters: Lirael (Old Kingdom), Nicholas Sayre
Summary: "The walk to Barhedrin takes Nick and Lirael the better part of the night." Nick's first night back in the Old Kingdom. (Set following the events of "Nicholas Sayre and the Creature in the Case," but no prior knowledge is required.)
Reason I liked it: Nick does not fit in, pretty much anywhere, which is why he fits with Lirael.
Blew Out the Light of My Soul (4844 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Being Human (North America)
Rating: Explicit
Warning: Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Rape/Non-Con
Relationships: Aiden/OC
Characters: Aiden, James Bishop, Original Female Character, Original Male Character
Summary: Aiden wasn’t lying when he told Josh that it was a bad idea to bring his family into their world. He wasn’t lying when he said that it wouldn’t end well.
See, once upon a time, Aiden was called Ian. And Ian had a family. He had a wife and a son and a life that didn’t include drinking blood to survive. And then, one day, he didn’t.
Reason I liked it: Aiden's life is so clearly split between the time before he was turned and the time after. This explores the price he paid for that split.
Knight's Move (1056 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Arthurian Mythology
Rating: Not Rated
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Lancelot du Lac/Arthur Pendragon, Galahad/Mordred
Characters: Arthur Pendragon, Lancelot du Lac, Mordred (Arthurian), Galahad (Arthurian), Guinevere (Arthurian)
Summary: Au/Future Fic; Arthur Pendragon, Once and Future King, is replenished and renewed following his 'sojourn' on Avalon. Thousands of years have passed and his knights are re-gathering, reincarnated and re-learning their roles. As the last member of the British Royal Family lies dying and Arthur prepares for his takeover, it is all observed by another whose fate was entangled with these men.
Reason I liked it: I love the knights gathering around Arthur in this sort of dystopian future that he knows so little of but, really, it's knowing who the old lady is that made the story for me.
no fortress so strong (a triptych) (1966 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Boondock Saints (Movies)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Connor MacManus, Murphy MacManus, Rocco (Boondock Saints)
Summary: As long as Connor and Murphy have Connor and Murphy, they'll be fine. Everything else is extraneous.
Reason I liked it: Three examples of the boys being brothers. They may be annoyed but, damn it, they will still be there for each other.
Go Hard (9303 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Texts From Last Night, The Avengers (2012), Captain America (2011), Iron Man (Movies)
Rating: Mature
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark
Characters: Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Pepper Potts, Jarvis (Iron Man movies)
Summary: No one has figured out that it's him, but Tony Stark is kind of a sensation on Texts From Last Night. Jarvis has helpfully categorized Tony's TFLN texts by time period and subject matter.
Steve has some opinions about all of this.
Reason I liked it: It is Iron Man crossed over with Texts from Last Night. No, I am not kidding. Yes, I laughed my way through pretty much the entire thing.
Scenes from a Shore Leave (or Four) (1078 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: seaQuest
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Benjamin Krieg & Lucas Wolenczak
Characters: Benjamin Krieg, Lucas Wolenczak
Summary: Scenes from a friendship, one shore leave at a time.
Reason I liked it: Before I knew there was such a thing as "fan fic" I was making up stories to go along with this show. This is a look at Lucas and Ben and reminds me of the threads of humor that always ran through every episode and why I liked it in the first place.
Compelling Distraction (2685 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: The Avengers (2012), Thor (2011)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Clint Barton/Darcy Lewis
Characters: Darcy Lewis, Clint Barton, Jane Foster
Summary: "Oh my god, SHIELD sent us Robin Hood."
Reason I liked it: the Darcy voice is awesome - snark and humor and flirting and all.
they that go down to the sea in ships (3680 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: The Witch of Blackbird Pond - Elizabeth George Speare
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Kit Tyler/Nat Eaton
Characters: Kit Tyler, Nat Eaton, Hannah Tupper, Prudence Cruff
Summary: Kit's survived quite a storm, and now she's ready for life on the other side.
Reason I liked it: This should be an epilogue for the original story. Beautifully written and tells the tale of Kit fitting into her new life, which is not exactly what she planned but possibly all the better for it.
Already edited a few times, and there may be more. :)
