I don't get it...

Is this supposed to be demoralizing? Less "masculine"? I get that it's an awful color, but the reasoning behind it could be borderline discriminatory (to say the least). Not to mention that, if it is to be humiliating, just what kind of stereotypes it is reinforcing...

Actually, that isn't the first place to switch to pink uniforms... and whatever psychological factors are behind it, it works.

Ever since the first county jail did it (in Arizona, I think), ASP, Inc., a company which makes handcuffs, chemical sprays, police batons, and other such security stuff, has begun selling a LOT of pink handcuffs to other police and other law enforcement agencies.

It just seems... odd. I'd be curious to know some of the research behind this. Is it due to cultural norms? Is it due to gender differentiation over the past several centuries? Or is it due to it being a friken ugly color?
