SGA - Saro

Couldn't sleep, so I did something somewhat productive.

Title: Saro
Genre: SGA, Gen
Length: 200 words (double drabble)
Rating: PG
Synopsis/Notes: For Stargate Drabbles’ “Ghost Story” challenge (#63). Also inspired by some artwork I did here.
Disclaimer: Not mine, they belong to people with far more money than me.

“I do not understand,” Teyla said with a tired sigh. “I could see... feel...”

“The sensors sometimes have echoes,” John offered despite Rodney’s rolled eyes. “Maybe it’s something like that?”

“This was no echo,” she insisted. She rubbed a hand across her face, emphasized the darkened shadows under her eyes, cheekbones standing in high relief.

“Could be that herb from...” McKay started, only to be cut off.

“This was no herb!” she growled. “Every person I’ve ever lost, ever cared for and had ripped away from me, has appeared before me for the past three days. There are even those I do not recognize despite my best attempts.” She leaned back in her chair, hands fisted atop the table they were currently gathered around. “I cannot explain it and yet cannot deny that this is happening.”

Ronon spoke for the first time since the topic was mentioned, looked her straight in the eyes unflinchingly and said, “This is the time of Saro among my people. Seen something like it elsewhere, too. It’s a time of remembrance.”

“We have forgotten so many,” she agreed mournfully.

He gripped her hand, found it met by two others. “Not anymore. Today we start remembering.”
