Kitties!

Got home a bit late tonight due to needing to pick up the car from the shop. We stopped for dinner on the way back and got home about 6:30. And then promptly went out again.

Only to our yard though as only one kitty apparently spent the day in the house. Ghost, the youngest, met us on the front porch meowing plaintively, white fur a decided shade of brown. Got her in and noticed only Inky greeted us. Went to put the leftovers in the fridge and saw Bootsie staring back at me from the sliding door to the back yard. Let her in and started the search for her sister, Puss-Puss (yes, Puss 'n Boots are sisters).

Could not find her anywhere. Looked outside. Looked in the garage. Looked around the sides of the house and in the front garden. She was finally found under the steps in the back yard. She had not responded to calls because she's damn near silent on a good day and you can't get a peep out of her when she's panicked. (When she's pissed, that's another matter all together.)

So, cats are in, one of the three wiped down with those little wipe-thingies and the other two still needing to be brushed. Did I mention the sisters are about 17 years old and share a brain cell? Kind of added to the panic on our end as well.

Best we can tell is that the cleaning service that comes once a month somehow let them out. The boys are careful not to and chase them down if they try. None are outdoors cats (well, Ghost was a stray kitten when we got her, but has been inside ever since), and really could not survive in the wild. Puss and Boots got lucky the hawk in the back yard took the day off, though Ghost was safe(r) on the porch.

Sigh.

At least we found them all?

Smart kitties to stick close to the house. The hawk probably isn't going to risk running into it to get them.

Our dog hides from the hawk in the same place. Apparently seeing it swoop down and grab a bunny he was after, tear it apart in mid-air, and then munch on it over on the roof of the neighbor's garage was too much for him. Seriously was thinking it got Puss when we couldn't find her.

Smart girl to listen to her instincts and HIDE. ;-)

Oh dear. That's one of my greatest fears. Poor kitties must be traumatized - as are you, I bet!

Glad it's all resolved and everyone is fine.

Ghost is cuddling in my lap and staying very close should I dare to move anywhere. Puss and Boots have formed what we nicknamed "Cat Ball" downstairs, rolled up into one another until you can't tell where one begins and the other ends.

The nice thing about living on the 4th floor an apartment building, if Madeline gets out, she won't get far. Granted, she HAS gotten out once or twice and I've had to chase her up and down the length of the building before I could scoop her up and stick her back in. Kittens are surprisingly fast runners.

Oh, I know about runners... Less than a year after we got Ghost we were moving a bed downstairs and needed to open the door to get it angled on the steps right. There she went, top speed, through the neighbor's yard. There we went, still in our pj's, chasing after her through the yard... :)

Oh, so glad everyone's safe and sound. OMG that hawk sounds scary. My cats are indoor pets too. They really yearned to go out when our house was a tiny single-story - opening the door is always an adventure. But now that we live in a 2-storey, they're content to just watch the outside world through the sliding doors.

And heh, my mom had a cat named Inky too. He was clever and loved to sleep in my parents' bed. *g* And the sisters are 17 years old? Awesome!

Our cats will try to sneak out every once in a while, then sit in back with this look of, "Huh, now what?" Very happy they were all okay though - had my heart going for a bit.
