Learned a coworker of mine went to the same high school as me. She’s much younger than I am, but apparently we shared some of the same teachers. My truly excellent yet you still did not want to be left alone with him in the dark room art teacher just recently retired and she credits him with encouraging her art (which rocks, BTW).
She also told me she had the same English teachers as I did. One of these teachers was a student teacher who had just been hired on full time when I was there. Loved him. Totally credit him with encouraging both my sci-fi love and to try my hand at writing. He was a dork, but so excited about everything and accepted what amounted to my first fanfic piece as a submission for a project (based in the Highlander universe, but with an original character or three). It had typos and punctuation issues (give me credit, it was 1995 and I had rarely typed anything without my mother taking it away from me and doing it herself) and he adored it anyway and asked for a copy and told me he’d love to see me published some day.
I’m fairly certain a fanfic writer on the internet is not what he meant, but I am still working on my original series and have faint hopes of submitting it someday, eventually, quite possibly years from now. Anyway, to Mr. Voss – you rock and I thank you.
