Blame

This was just going to be a drabble, then it turned into a drabble and a half, then it turned into a double drabble.

Title:  Blame
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers/Season:  "First Strike" (Season 3)
Category:  Double Drabble (200 words)
Synopsis:  How the hell had everything turned out so wrong?

Disclaimer:  I don't own Stargate: Atlantis or any of its characters, people with a lot of money do.  I'm just borrowing for playtime.

The plan had succeeded far beyond expectations.  They had escaped the beam and even managed to not blow up the city.  Well, at least most of it anyway.  So how the hell had everything turned out so wrong?

The control room was in shambles, sparks flying from broken panels, the personnel dripping with blood.  Scientists and Marines were limping away with the aid of anyone available who had even basic first aid training.  Ronon was impaled by glass but, knowing him, would be fine.  Elizabeth...  Who in their right mind walks up to a wall of glass to look at a laser trying to slice the city in half?  No, he could not blame her; would not blame her after seeing her pale, unconscious body being wheeled away.

If only the shield had been activated a few seconds earlier, none of this would have happened.  If only they had not wasted precious hours on failed ideas.  If only they had never turned over two of their power sources to Earth and its defenses.  If only they had dialed out before the Replicator gate engaged.  If only...

No, he could not blame her, he thought bitterly.  He could only blame himself.
