Torchwood: Mantra

This is why I should never be allowed to watch this show.

Title:  Mantra
Show/Series:  Torchwood (it's a first for me)
Category:  Crossover
Spoilers:  Cyberwoman
Synopsis:  A mantra began in her mind, every ounce of being focused into the words.

Disclaimer:  I don't own them, people with lots of money do.  I'm just playing around.

She fought to remain conscious as the world around her seemed to narrow to the smallest of apertures.  She could not see, her eyes sealed shut with tears and blood, but she could hear, she could analyze, she could process what was going on in the environment around her.

Her beloved, her sweet Ianto, was crying, sobbing over the body that no longer held her.  She had tried to explain she was no longer in that form, in that storage unit, but he did not believe her, did not understand.  She had been transferred into this new form, this purer form, this now dying form.

The voices swirled around her, and she heard it all.  This body was to be put into storage, preserved until such time they could examine just what changes the ones they called the Cybermen made to her neural network.  The woman asked if it was fair, if it was the right thing to do to one who had already suffered so much.  The leader reminded her that they needed all knowledge at their disposal; anything that could be used to protect humanity, to protect Earth, needed to be evaluated, examined, integrated.  The one once known as Lisa had sworn herself to Torchwood, to what it stood for, and it did not matter if she was no longer who she once was, that oath still stood; she would aid in any way she could.

Memory surged.  Personality, conflict, resolution.  A mantra began in her mind, every last ounce of being focused into the words.

I am Lisa.  I am a human augmented to become a cyborg.  I work for Torchwood as authorized by the Queen.

The body, her shell, was damaged.  They patched what they could and placed her carefully into the containment unit.  The mantra faltered, but her resolve held.  She would not be lost.

I am Lisa…  Human augmented to become cyborg...  I work for the Queen.

Time passed.  Days, months, centuries, she had no idea how long.  But she was certain she held it together, her mantra strong in her mind.

I am human...  augmented... cyborg...  the Queen...

When her storage unit was initialized, the fading memories came back in force.  The augmentations, the suffering, the sacrifice.  Her shell was repaired enough to function, to provide data and knowledge.  Finally, they gave her enough strength, enough power to vocalize what remained of her thoughts.

I am Borg Queen.

As I said, I should probably not watch this show if this is where my mind goes.

Feedback is always welcome.  Please tell me how out of it you think I am.
