Magic and Mayhem and Rocks, Oh My!

Finally got to see the first two eps of this season of Merlin. "Obtained" them previously, but had other things on my mind the first week and then could not get anything to play correctly the second. With [personal profile] wolfie74's help, I now have the correct codec and was finally able to watch them.

Part the First -

- Morgana is gone for a year, and all she needs is a nap?

- Is Katie McGrath allowed to do anything other than smirk and wear heavy make up this season?

- Dear gods, I want her costumes.

- Merlin & Arthur banter = good times.

- Seriously, how can Arthur not know at this point? Or does he honestly think that many trees spontaneously fall when Merlin's around and it's perfectly natural for his enemies to be crushed beneath them?

- Anyone else get the vibe that Cenred and Morgause did more than "plan" together?

- Anyone else get the vibe that Morgana and Morgause did more than "plan" together?

- Merlin needs to learn he sucks at stealth.

- This fandom does so love its magical bondage, doesn't it? *g*

- Anyone else worried Merlin was getting whiplash when the dragon carried him off? Bouncy bouncy bouncy...

Part the Second -

- Why wasn't Arthur more worried about his personal servant disappearing while it was known others were plotting against him and his kingdom? Or does he express this worry through throwing things?

- Very nice touch of Ygraine wearing the same rings Arthur does.

- Anyone else expecting Morgana to make the mandrake root dance like a little puppet when she tied and yanked on the string, or was it just me?

- Love Arthur. Love Gwen. But why does he always look stoned when he is supposed to look besotted with her?

- They really got out their Old English dictionaries for these two eps, didn't they?

- I do believe the Evil Dead Trilogy had better fake skeletons. Then again, they also had a man with a chainsaw for a hand, so there is that.

- Merlin's "training" with Arthur paying off, or did Morgana spend the last year playing with magic and forgetting how to fight? [Though she did remember how to look pretty while making the attempt, so there's that.]

- Morgana has now learned what Callisto on Xena was forced to figure out: Rocks are BAD. [Also, Firefox's spell check knows the word Xena - rock on.]

- Silly Merlin, thinking he'd finally get credit.

- Also, maybe it's just me, but WHY THE HELL DIDN'T HE TELL HER ABOUT HIS MAGIC? Perfect opportunity. Unless he was afraid she'd somehow survive and use it against him? Then again, it's been an admittedly weak argument all along. So much would have been different if he had done so long ago.

- Set up for the season: Morgana versus Merlin, smirk versus eyebrows, pretty new dresses versus same outfit from before, support of a chick in armour versus support of a man who acts like a chick in armour.

- Did like the reference to Merlin having a crap ton of natural magic and the comments that Morgana does not trust in that she has yet, making her not as strong as she could be. He needs training mixed with his talent. She needs confidence to increase the effectiveness of her training. Again, if they WORKED TOGETHER they would totally rule Camelot in a heartbeat.

All in all, not bad. Next one looks painful, so I might hold off on that for a tiny bit and focus on this little tidbit for the [community profile] camelot_fleet party instead.
