Xena - Run
Yeah, so I couldn't sleep (again, some more) and this is where my mind took me. If this keeps up, I might actually have to find a Xena group on LJ... (Do they even exist?)
Title: Run
Category/Genre: Xena, Double Drabble (200 words)
Rating: PG
Season/Spoilers: Post-Quest
Synopsis: They called it safety. She called it a prison.
Disclaimer: I don’t own this little universe, people with a lot of money do. I’m just borrowing it to play in for a bit and making no profit from the experience.

It was too much. The responsibilities, the expectations, all of it. She wanted freedom. She had earned it. The sweat, the blood, the sacrifices over the years, shouldn’t they have added up to something by now?
They were offering her a safe haven, a place to call her own. A place with walls and guards and rules. A place where the lives of an entire community would rest upon her whims. A place where she was to reign.
They called it safety. She called it a prison.
She wanted blue skies, green grasses, the wind in her hair. They offered her that, as long as she took along an escort. She wanted to sleep under the stars, to hunt, to swim. They told her she could have that, as long as they chose the location and cleared it first.
She wanted to look into the eyes of her best friend and know they were equals, know she would never be judged based on right, only ability. They could not meet her terms.
“Have you chosen?” the Regent politely inquired.
She turned to the warrior at her side, a knowing smile on her lips. “Yes,” she replied. “I want to run.”
End.
