FEMA has denied aid to the victims of the tornado that hit NE Minneapolis. They believe the state, with it's huge budget deficit and potential shutdown looming, should be able to take care of it on its own.

Yes.

Any Minnesotans or pro-Minnesotan or, hell, pro-Help-Those-In-Need people out there want to help out?

MN Red Cross is taking donations.

There is this PDF of other local donation places.

[livejournal.com profile] threnodyjones has a post with pictures she took herself in the aftermath.

And there are also multiple videos online of the damage.

Yes, Joplin was hit worse. Yes, many places have many horrific things going on, both natural and not, right now. But, this is home, you know?

Thank you!

Title: Sorcerer
Genre: Gen, Angst, Friendship, Future!Fic
Rating: R
Length: ~18,300 words
Spoilers: Through the end of Series 3
Warnings: A bit of violence, a bit of angst, a bit of injury.
Synopsis: Magic is revealed and the ban repealed, but is Merlin now no more than a title?
Author’s Notes: For the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] sinka, who bid on me at the [livejournal.com profile] help_japan auction. This ended up far more Gen than I originally planned, but there’s plenty of angsting and such, so hopefully you will find it acceptable. *g*
Disclaimer: I do not own this interpretation of the myths and am making no profit from this.

Just a friendly reminder that the [livejournal.com profile] help_japan and [community profile] help_japan auctions are ending soon. If you have anything to offer, you can still add it to the offering posts for now. If you would like to bid, go look through the oh-so-many awesome things on offer.

My own thread offering a minimum 1,000K story is here for those who are interested. Word count will increase with bid.

I am offering fic over at [livejournal.com profile] help_japan. My thread is here for anyone who is interested.

Minimum 1,000 word fic. Higher bid = higher word count.

Fandoms offering = Merlin, Sherlock, Leverage, and Fringe.

If anyone is interested in bidding on these or some of the other awesome fic being offered, or if you are interested in offering something yourself, please visit the site for details.

So, like many people, I have been watching and reading about the total devastation in Japan. Like several people on my f-list, I would like to do something to help. Also, like several people on my f-list, I was not 100% comfortable about some of the pictures being used to urge people to donate to the different charities.

I could not look at the houses on fire or flooded with water and not think, "Someone lives there. That's someone's home." So I made something that I hope would not be quite so triggering for people who have friends and loved ones actually living through the disaster right now. If it is still too much, please let me know and I will take it down.

So, yeah, needless to say, there's about a 99.9% chance I will be offering something up at the [livejournal.com profile] help_japan/[community profile] help_japan auction going on. In the interim, I have made both the icon you see above and the banner below for anyone and everyone to use if they so desire. My only request is no hotlinking as I have no idea what LJ would do about that.

Title: The Adventure of the Tainted Cask
Genre: Gen, Gwen and Merlin Friendship
Rating: PG-13
Length: ~ 10,300 words
Spoilers: Nothing specific. Slight AU as Gwen knows about Merlin.
Synopsis: When people fall ill in the lower town with only one thing in common, it is up to Gwen and Merlin to find the cure and save the day.
Author’s Notes: For the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] tielan and her awesome donation made in honour of [livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan. The request was for the Gwen and Merlin Detective Agency, canon era, with Gwen solving the puzzles and Merlin being the magical muscle. Thanks go out to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] threnodyjones for her incredible herbal knowledge as well!

Just a reminder that the bidding portion of the Help Pakistan auction ends on the 28th (at the end of the week).

I'm offering a minimum 1,000 word story HERE (and, OMG, thank you, [livejournal.com profile] tielan - are you sure that is not a typo?).

And [personal profile] wolfie74 is offering 10 recipes (you choose the theme) HERE (she's Le Cordon Bleu and internationally trained as a chef).

If these are not up you alley, check out the other postings at [livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan or at their delicious account of organized tags or maybe offer up something of your own. It is for a good cause.

I'm sure everyone has seen this all over their f-lists by now and, yes, I am throwing my hat into the ring as well.

I am offering a minimum 1,000 word story in the Merlin, Leverage, or Sherlock fandom. Words may go up if the prompt leads to it, and the words will go up if the bid is high enough.

The link to my bidding thread is HERE.

Why am I doing this?
The BBC online news service has some in depth coverage of the floods and their tolls. Some may make you cry. One article in particular struck and hit me hard. On top of all the stress and horrors of losing everything you own and watching your life wash away, women and young girls are suffering from a combination of unhygienic practices and massive culture shock. They cannot bathe properly as there is no safe and segregated place to do so, and they are forced into situations and housing with non-relatives in ways they have never had to deal with before.

Yes, some people would say to break the cultural norms in this instance and just deal with it. But when everything else has been taken away, you have your faith and your upbringing left, and not a whole lot else - what are you going to fall back on?

Anyway, this is my long and rambly way of asking people to check out the [livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan site and to consider donating either time or money. Aside from fic and art up for auction, there are knit goods and recipes and more. You might find something that interests you or you might find something you yourself can offer.

Just think about it, that's all I ask.
