GateFic Awards

I just wanted to say thank you to the lovely people who nominated my SG-1 stories for a GateFic Award! You are very sweet and I thank you very much for your kindness.

My site is down, likely permanently, but the three fics are all hosted over at The Alpha Gate:

Bodhisattva - Vala believes she has figured Daniel out.

Prophetiae - "It wasn't just Merlin, was it?" - set after The Shroud.

The Space Between - A conversation between friends. [Set post-Heroes, but with end of series spoilers as well.] This one is also available at LJ.

Thank you again!

If you're interested in setting up on AO3, I'd be happy to help you learn the ropes, bb. I know not everything from your site could go up because you had other mediums, iirc, but it's the next best thing to owning the servers yourself.

Also, CONGRATULATIONS! \o/

It's not like DW in terms of invites - you put your name in a queue, and shortly thereafter you get your code. I think Heather's took less than 24 hours, and that was last week.

There are actually three different upload mechanisms, all of which I've tried at this point. The first is the html form, where you just paste your LJ/DW-ready file into the box. It takes web-ready files, too, apparently. The second is an RTF editor, which works like LJ/DW's, except less buggy. The third is to upload directly from a URL. I never expected that to work, but it filled in a remarkable number of fields for me based on my headers, page title, etc. I was pleasantly surprised how fast that upload went.

Basically, the only required fields appear to be title and story, but I tend to set rating, fandom, characters/pairings, A/N, backdating (to the original upload date, because I'm anal - this is not at all required), and tags. All of that takes approximately 2-3 minutes for each story, if I'm using the html uploader and dithering about tags.

Tags are the weird part. Basically, it's just a matter of thinking, "If I could tag this story with anything I wanted, what would it be?" It's the very freedom that took me a bit to get used to. But then I was like, "OMG, I CAN TAG IT WITH ANYTHING I WANT TO!" and went on a tagging spree. Ahaha. You would not believe some of the tags people use. I can search for every post-Trinity fic on the whole site, if people are all using the episode tags. I can also search by themes, like "Snow/ice", or by communities or challenges, like "Community: camelot_fleet" (real tag).

Basically, I like the freedom of knowing I can have everything in one place and never upload again, and that I have an opt-out of pretty much every field, including warnings and category. But everyone's needs differ, so I know those won't be draws for all writers.
