“I’m not sure I understand this celebration of yours,” Vala commented, picking up one of the painted pumpkins littering the cafeteria and looking at it with distain.
“There’s actually a historical context in many cultures,” Daniel began. “Most having to do with the spirits of the departed returning. Some honor the dead, while others fear them.”
“Yes, yes, but what does this have to do with all the candy?” she interrupted. “Or decorating oneself as something you are not?”
“Dress funny, get free stuff,” Mitchell interjected.
A broad grin spread across her face. “Now that is something I can understand.”
