Merlin 4.01
So, a year has passed. In this time, Uther has grown weak, the knights have grown awesome, Arthur lost a crap ton of weight, Morgana got a new wardrobe and yurt, Gaius got a new wig, Gwen got some extensions and make up, and Merlin got... nothing? Not even a new jacket. Poor guy.
Percival carrying the children was cute. Yes, obvious showing that big guy is still big and such, but I rather loved the almost dumb jock moment of, "Er, how do I do this?". The boy is not the brightest, but he does have a good heart.
Also, the episode once again furthers my belief that Arthur so totally knows about Merlin. I mean, I have suspected this for a while, especially with the last two episodes of last season, but I really do think he has figured it out and is almost getting tired of playing dumb. He knows there is *something* about Merlin that is keeping him safe and probably thinks there is magic of some sort involved, beit a charm Merlin carries, or Merlin himself. He can't admit it and can't ask, not yet, but he knows Merlin is special in some way, even if he does not know the specifics.
Did love Lancelot both knowing and being amused by the whole thing, right up until he is concerned. Did not love Merlin being stupid enough to jump toward the ghost thing. It's one thing to save both Arthur and the kingdom via blood sacrifice, but another to push Arthur out of the way, get offed yourself, and then leave him to go off himself trying to save everything else. Not that Merlin will actually die, of course. There's that whole immortality in the myths thing, not to mention he's the title character. *g*
No, the show is not perfect. But it does provide so much fodder for stories that you kinda have to love it, at least a litte.

I actually had to hop about in my seat for a while before I started the show. Heee. I really am not watching anything else, so this show is kind of my big grand love affair. Oh, show. <3<3<3
This ep did not dissappoint. Just ignore the little wtf's and all will be fine. *g* Especially wtf?Agravaine? And wtf?where'sGwen/Lancelot?
I feel cold just looking at Morgana, which is - awesome. Her eyes and skin is even more paler. Whoo. Or is it the goth chick thing. Oh well. I love her little bits of humanity, re: Emrys and her sisterrr.
Gwen feels like she's grown a quiet, determined strength. She looks even more lovely. Love the new gown. (but seriously what is that scene where she just cuts Lancelot's heart in two? :(( DNW.)
Laaaaance. OMG even more handsome and I just love how he's there for Merlin. That made me ridiculously happy, because someone's thinking of Merlin.
Merlin passing out? Surprised me, actually. Was not fond of Arthur's face when he did, though. :(
Yup, BJ lost weight. Kind of understandable since Arthur had a lot on his shoulders this past year. (but I hope BJ is ok since it seems he's been a bit ill lately?)
Haha, I could not believe they blatantly showed off his butt and his small-of-back. Mmmmm, thank you tptb. Something else to ogle other than his chest. :):)
The knights! Yesss, so very awesome. Not much screentime for everyone, but then again it is only the new ep. I actually LOLed at Gwaine munching the apple. That was an impressive moment actually, aside from the comedic aspect, it also shows how quiet everything was. Awesome bit of storytelling.
LOL at Percy's 'duh' moment. Hee. Elyan was cool, not enough Gwaine and Leon but it's just the first ep, yeah?
Btw, drying Arthur's shirt in the kitchens? Won't it be smelling of roast chicken? LOLOL. And how cute were Gwaine and Percival lifting the chicken? Hee. I think the that whole scene with the cook and Merlin in the kitchens were a nod to fanfic.
Gaius had new hair? Didn't notice. *g* ASH played Uther very well, though. Soo cool to see this broken man.
I love how everything was shot. That new film whatchamacallit really made a difference. It feels so epiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic \o/
Sorry for the incoherency! But I'm so happy! Yay!

This is when I get to tell how I watched the new ep with Youngest right after watching the two-part finale with him. The scene before the big battle in the finale, where Lancelot figures Merlin's got something going and tell him he should be knighted and such - Youngest turns to me and says, "They are so together, aren't they?"
Flash forward to the new ep and he sees Lancelot's new shorter hair and says, "But what happened to that pretty hair?" I explain about the new show he's in and how he cut it for that. Youngest's response? "But if he had another show, that means he won't be in this one as much and who is going to be there for Merlin?!?"
Love him and his fanboy ways.
Oh, and as for Arthur's expression when Merlin passed out, I am taking it as part of the whole "Arthur secretly knows but pretends he doesn't" thing and so Arthur knows his men saw Morgana, that it's Samhain Eve and a magical time, and then Merlin passes out, so he is kind of like, "Oh crap, what now? Is the castle about to fall in on us? Another dragon attack? Something worse? Damnit!" *nods* That was totally it. :)

Heee, Youngest. *pets him* Tell him Gwaine and Lance are totally in cahoots and one agrees to look after him extra when the other is not around. *nods*
Hmm yes, at lot of folks have provided an explanation for Arthur's face (including Merlin's-been-at-the-rum-again-damnit-Gwaine) so yes... I accept all of them. :D (though I do so greatly agree with your headcanon, that Arthur has known for a long while and he's just waiting... yes he is my precious...)
Still excited that Merlin is a man now... and still dreaming of a huge puppy pile of knights 'warming' Merlin up. How else could he have survived, right? :D:D:D
