Reactions slow. Lights linger, draw cryptic patterns in the sky and on the walls surrounding him. Sounds undulate, coming nearer only to run away. Balance seems off, the world spinning, circulating around him, through him. He’s no longer certain where he ends and the party begins, only that all is one and one is all and wasn’t that a saying in a book somewhere? It should be.
“Come on, Danny,” a familiar voice sounds to his left-right. A gentle hand at his elbow guides him away from the patterns and noise, away from the flickering lights of what a distant memory names fire.
“It’s only beginning,” he protests, watches his words fade away into the air around them.
“But you’re all done,” the voice counters. Two hands now, one on his waist and one on his arm, leading him to a place that smells and feels like home. “You’re a cheap date, you know that, right?” the voice, Jack, teases, pushing him into softness. He’s falling, floating, landing in warmth.
“Drink was offered, rude to say no,” he argues.
“And you’re never rude,” Jack agrees.
“Never,” he nods. The crinkling of fabric fades as sweet oblivion rises and envelops him.
