My brain is dead from work stress and other things. I will try to post a Dear ayuletide letter in the next day... you know, when I'm with it enough to actually sign up (iPad is a fight with the coding, not awake enough to mess with the shared server).

Someone decide for me which of two finished fics I should post first? AU/slightly more dystopic universe Agents of SHIELD Skye-centric one or AU post CA:TWS Clint/Natasha-centric one with a pile of trigger warnings?

Please and thank you?

And that's a wrap on this year's CONvergence. There was fun, there was stress, there were cool costumes, and there was Marina Sirtis being even more awesome in real life than thought possible. It was not without drama holy fuck was it not, but you get 7K people together under one roof and you kinda have to expect that to happen to some extent. No literal fires, the majority of the issues handled immediately and in extremely positive ways - we are calling it a win.

Now we get to sleep. For really. For really really.

And plot and plan for next year.

Today was setup day for CONvergence. Got the teens set and settled, got the games room prepped to be settled, got badges sorted, got packing sorted, got food in me (eventually), and got home. We don't check into the hotel for sleeping rooms until tomorrow, so tonight is paying bills and finding all the last minute stuff.

Up side: found my missing badge holder.

Down side: cannot find my copy of Imzadi and Marina Sirtis is a guest of honor who will also be doing signing. Boo.

Now if I can get some actual sleep tonight and get the giant set of hives on my arm from brushing up against something to go away so I can wear the adorable dress I found, I'll be set.

I love my son. Really I do. Let me recap since Thursday as we prep for CONvergence (he's one of the heads for the Teen Room).

"Did you make signs advertising the Teen Room?"

"Crap, no, I forgot!"

Rush around. Rush around. Get some quick and dirty ones done.

"Um, honey, the guy who does all the official artwork for con just posted a ton on Tumblr."

"Oh, yeah, saw that. Cool."

"You know, while we were rushing around would have been a prime time to tell me you knew he was making these..."

"What, I'm supposed to remember everything?"

Head desk.

Here's the link for the images, if you are interested: Teen Room Posters. The guy is rather awesome and also is a professional comic book artist.

Debated not signing up this year, but the sign up post hit just as writer's block did, and it's helped so much in the past, so... Yep, another round of [community profile] hc_bingo. Bonus points for being given the square I've always wanted to poke at, but never got up until now?

Card Below the Cut )

Some repeats from the past years, some new ones, and definitely some ideas brewing at the back of my mind. Hopefully some of those will turn into actual readable stories?

So I'm part of the convention committee for a Sci-Fi con that hits our area this summer. As such, we were lucky enough to get first dibs on the new shirts to be available at con this year.

A) Artwork is so cool. Truly excellent.

B) For some reason, the guys shirts are sized larger than usual. Like, if you normally get a large, you can probably get by with a medium. It's okay though, because the women's shirts are sized extra small to make up for it. Like, as one person put it, maybe one of her thighs would fit in the large.

C) The people selling the shirts are less than pleased. This is totally not their fault in any way, shape, or form. They are warning people, to the point they both suggest a size and request you hold it up because the sizing is so crazy this year.

D) So, is it the fault of "fake geek girls" or is it the fault of the fashion industry forcing their skewed sense of norms on others? The women's shirts are smaller, cut tighter, and with a v-neck and slightly different fabric. The men's are larger, wider throughout, with a crew-neck and slightly more heavy duty fabric. They were charged the same to make them, so they are charging the same to sell them.

Damn I love Orphan Black. So many political and social issues interwoven into an actual fast-moving plot with awesome characterization.

I need an icon for this, I know. But who would I choose as favorite? Let's be honest, it would be Helena.

Okay, so there's this thing. I love feedback, adore it, get super excited every time I see someone has commented on something I have written.

And then I have no idea how to respond.

Thanks, thank you, and variations there of are appropriate, but don't seem like enough. Especially when someone leaves awesomely long commentary on what they liked and why. And then I wonder how to respond. And then I debate it. And debate it. And then I fail to respond at all.

Um, sorry?

Please know that if I do not immediately respond to feedback and kudos and comments and the like that it's not because I am an ass. I just kinda sorta don't know what to say. And then fail to say anything useful at all.

Crossposting to Tumblr too because, really, I suck at this and need to own up to it.

Say someone writes a fic wherein it's sort of a fusion between Fandom A and Fandom B, but no characters from Fandom B are actually in the fic itself (basically, characters from Fandom A coexist in the same universe as Fandom B), does this get labeled as a crossover?

I think AO3 has a "fusion" option, but I also don't want to post something that shows up in searches for both fandoms and have someone click it hoping for characters from Fandom B where they simply are not there.

Catching up on my f-list before I attempt to catch up on the comments I am so woefully behind on for AO3. There are some truly tempting challenges and exchanges out there, such as [community profile] genprompt_bingo and [livejournal.com profile] avengers_remix and more.

The thing is, I just wrapped up the last round of [community profile] hc_bingo and I kinda made an internal goal to write more self-indulgent fic for a while, even if no one likes/reads it. I have a couple WIPs to finish up and I handful of ideas floating around for other things.

January through like March is usually kind of a quiet, non-productive time for me. I might get like one huge (usually angst-ridden) fic completed, and that's about it. I like the idea of the challenges prompting me to write more, but I also like the idea of going back to writing things outside of just challenge fics.

Thinking of passing on the challenges for right now, but keeping them bookmarked. If I get a lull or writer's block or something, I can always poke at their prompt tags, right? That's not completely against the rules?

So, yeah, kind of a pointless, rambly post. :)

Reveals are up! I had the immense pleasure of writing a Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters fic for [personal profile] credoimprobus. Seriously, so much fun writing this one - the prompt was so awesome and gave me an excuse to write a fic that had been floating around in my head since I saw the movie.

Woke up and cannot immediately go back to sleep due to far too much on my mind.

This is the first year in my 30+ in which we did not go to one of my relatives for Christmas Eve. Instead, all of the way too many cousins were doing things with their own expanding families and the like, so we got together here with [personal profile] wolfie74's mother and the boys' father. The boys' father usually comes over for Christmas Day, opens presents with us, then takes the kids to his side of the family for their festivities. Due to the massive amounts of snow and ice and the possibility of being snowed in, we did everything tonight instead and he left with them before it got worse. It was a little odd after so many years of doing it differently, but it does mean the possibility of sleeping in come morning for the first time in years.

[personal profile] wolfie74 seems to have really loved her gifts. The boys actualy actively searched for things with meaning to them this year (versus the Chocolate Fountain Year, the Operation Game Year and more) and I found a handmade doll on Etsy of her fave Doctor that she cooed over, amongst other things. She got me things for our upcoming trip and a shirt that's technically in her fandom but the art kinda makes it looks like Natasha as well and makes me both want ALL THE KIDFIC and want to change one of my last two [community profile] hc_bingo stories that I'm struggling with to kidfic as well.

Her mother gave me something I am still struggling to figure out how to react to, but in a positive, heirloom, you-are-family kind of way. My mother both listened about a WWII history book I wanted in memory of my great-great aunt, and got me bracelet a friend made at a craft show because "it has stars and moons and celestial stuff you like."

And, finally, I peeked at LJ when I first woke back up and couldn't fall asleep and Yuletide has posted! Dude - I got three stories to enjoy in the morning while contemplating survival in the vast cold and white. So excited! Will post more when I am coherent and awake enough to do so about those!

So I signed up for [community profile] fandom_stocking again this year. My stocking is here if anyone is interested in taking a look.

I love this group because it is so wonderfully low stress. You can choose a tag and gift an image or link or rec or anything you want, really, even just happy thoughts for the upcoming year. I've already been dropping randomness in stockings and hope to poke at some more before it's time for the reveals.

In other news, I also finished my draft for Yuletide! Just need to edit it and re-edit it and the usual nitpicking that I do before I finally give up and post. This also means that I can focus on finishing a couple of more entries for [community profile] hc_bingo before the year is out. :)

Seriously, cannot say it enough, I adore the prompt the person gave for the fandom for Yuletide and really and truly hope I do it justice. Once the reveals are up, I kinda sorta want to friend them so we can squee over such similar interests together.

Got home and [personal profile] wolfie74 asked if I wanted popcorn for dinner. She took the fam to see Catching Fire and, needless to say, we enjoyed it.

No spoilers.

I will say there are parts missing from the book, but both in a way that still pushes forward the storyline, and keeps it rated for the younger audience, if that makes sense. There were two minor parts that I personally wanted to see on screen that weren't there, but there was enough that was straight from the pages to make up for it.

In other news, I have a coworker who hasn't read the books, didn't know the movies were based on a book series at all, and keeps calling it "Hunger Games 2." She's been trying to figure out why there is another game and wants to see more of "the Peeta and Katniss love story." Um...
