Okay, so this took me a bit longer than expected to put up. I had actually written a different drabble last week, but did not like how it turned out. This one hit me by surprise and I think I like the direction it leans in better than the other one.

They had not heard from Washington since the initial attack, so the arrival of General O’Neill, Colonel Davis, and the others was surprising. The injured were taken to Doctor Lam’s overflowing Infirmary while everyone else tried to offer whatever assistance they could to the flailing cause. No one tried to seize control for themselves, figuring the best people for the job were already doing whatever was possible.

Jack looked to his former team, seeing the weariness, the injuries, the hard set of every jaw. “Where do we stand?” he asked.

“At ground zero, sir,” Mitchell replied grimly. “Just like always.”
