“Are you coming?” McKay asked, gesturing down the hallway where the party had already started.

Carter shook her head with a little smile.  “No, I have plans.”

“I have it on good authority that pretty much all the booze and most of the good chocolate cache will be in attendance,” he wheedled.

“I’m good,” she insisted.  “You go, have a good time.  Let them know that if I didn’t hear about it, it didn’t happen.”

His eyes lit up as he grinned, already edging towards the door.  “Merry Christmas,” he said before the door opened and the sounds of laughter, clinking glasses, and corny music drifted down the corridor.

“You too,” she called back.  She watched the door close once more, shutting out the Christmas cheer and leaving her alone with her thoughts.  Nodding, sure in her decision, she made her way to her quarters.  She entered, locking the door behind her, leaning up against it while she waited.

It was not long before the room was filled with a bright light, coalescing into the form of a very familiar friend.  “I wasn’t sure you’d come,” she admitted.

Janet’s hand cupped her face, wiping away a tear.  “Merry Christmas, darling.”
