A scraped knee. A smashed finger. Bumps, bruises, colds and snot. She’s been through it all. Recitals, science fairs, playoff games. She’s seen them all and will gleefully watch the tape again if asked.
She’s worked impossibly long hours, just to come home to a sleepy hug and a muttered, “We ordered pizza, leftovers in the fridge.” Which, admittedly, is a step up from, “We didn’t burn anything this time,” or, “You didn’t happen to pick up takeout did you?”
Above it all, there is one thing that can never be said. Her job, their jobs, won’t allow it. “Mom.”
