Was thinking about old art-like project-like things and started looking for old working film-based cameras a few weeks back. A place on Etsy had some and I ended up buying myself an old 1953 Pony 135 Model C. For really damn cheap.

The thing with this camera is that the viewfinder has nothing to do with the finished image. You look through a glass square above the lens and set the settings and hope for the best. You have no idea what the finished image is going to look like until you develop the film (which is harder to find and find places to develop than you would think, btw).

We went out and took a few pics at a nearby park and recorded the settings and developed them to a CD. These are a few of the finished images, undoctored except to shrink them to a journal-friendly size.

Below a cut because I care. )

Mind you, some turned out as not much more than blurs, and some turned out pretty damned awesome, especially when you consider this sucker is over half a century old. All had a slight yellowish tone to them, which may be from the coating on the lens... which is supposedly radioactive, btw, so don't, you know, touch it or lick it or such. No, I am not kidding.

Anyway, kinda looking forward to playing with it some more, even if there is such a delayed gratification as it takes a week to develop actual film-film now, instead of digital pictures.

Had someone ask, which reminded me someone else asked, which reminded me that I totally forgot to reply, which reminded me I lost which entry anyway, which led me to post this.

Please feel free to create creations based upon my creations. Pod fic, art, and translations of fic into different languages are all welcome. I get a little iffy about remixes of actual stories due to past experiences with plagiarism, so please ask about those first.

My only request for any/all of theses is twofold:
1). Don't claim my original work as your own.
2). Share a link with what you made so I can link to it as well.

Sorry I keep forgetting to reply to individual requests - life is still a bit insane around here to say the least. Thank you for your patience in dealing with my absentmindedness.

Day 14 of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

She has destiny and prophesy on her side, but those tend to suck so she's lucky enough to have friends that help her see things through. She's died more than once and she's lived a life that most definitely was not of her choosing. And she still managed to look cute.

She's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and she is awesome. She's also no longer alone.

Day 13 of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

Kara Thrace is a trash talking, cigar smoking, Cylon blasting hotshot pilot. She's been screwed over and screwed others over in retaliation and is quite likely to disobey any order given to her, especially when doing so happens to save what's left of humanity.

Her endgame is a little bit iffy in canon but, suffice it to say, she's probably flying around out there, hearing nothing but the rain.

Genre: Modern AU
Rating: PG-13

Pairings: Arthur/Merlin, Gwen/Lance, Elena/Gwaine, general friendship all around

Day 12 of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

Temperance Brennan is a forensic anthropologist. She gives faces to the dead and brings peace to their families. She solves the mysteries and explains the unexplained. She also writes mystery novels and has some of the most awesome friends around.

She is Bones. Plain and not so simple.

Day 11 of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

Firefly had so many strong women, but I have to say River Tam was my favorite. Brilliant and innocent with a life that could have been so utterly and completely destroyed. Instead she survived and brought justice to a planet and may have possibly brought about the downfall of corrupt and powerful government.

Plus she's cute and can kick serious ass.

Day 10 of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

Teyla Emmagan led her people, saved her people, save the strange new people, befriended the strange new people, saved them some more, and then helped save an entire galaxy for good measure. Because she could.

This is a mini-tribute to the tiny little "alien" woman who fought the Wraith, and won.

Day 9 of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

It doesn't matter which universe you find yourself in or where in the timeline you fall, Olivia Dunham will still kick ass. You look at the premise for Fringe and realize that she has all the potential to be the most Maryest of Sues, and yet she manages not only to avoid that, but fight back against it and be all the more awesome for it.

This is a tribute to her, at least to a couple versions of her.

Day 8 of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

Molly Hooper works in the morgue at St. Bart's hospital in London. She is quiet, unassuming, loyal, and quite brilliant in her own right. She tends to have unfortunate taste in men, at least when it comes to them showing her the respect she deserves and/or not just using her to try to get at their archenemy. She is often times overlooked, and I do believe that could one day prove to be the downfall of someone who finds himself far too important.

In short, she's Molly, plain and simple, and this is a mini-tribute to her.

Day 7 of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

I had a list of which fandoms I wanted to create something for and this one was originally not on it. I'm honestly not sure why as Helen Magnus is most definitely a strong female character, creating and maintaining an international series of sanctuaries where people and beings that are just a little different can call home.

She's a scientist, damn near immortal, and really good with several types of weaponry, most of which she created herself. You'd think she'd be a bit of a Mary Sue, but she has friends who help keep her in line, show her that she has faults, and help her see her way through to the other side. Plus they, like she, are pretty sarcastic and funny.

Day six of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

Truly and utterly my favorite character on the show Leverage. She is brutally honest, has no internal filters, and may quite possibly be nuts - what's not to love?

Tonight's art-like post-like this is all about Parker, because there needs to be more Parker-love in the world.

Day five of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon.

One of my favorite characters on the Highlander series was Amanda. You simply must love a woman who managed to steal a Quickening yet managed to give up the only physical reminder of one very good friend for the chance to help out another. Awesome character, plain and simple.

Okay, so I had all these grand plans for an awesome "Redheads of Doctor Who" type thing for all the awesome gingers on the show. And then I had problems with both finding the images I wanted and with GIMP cooperating and OMG, River's hair is a nightmare to edit.

Um, yeah.

So, I must admit that I am not 100% happy with this one, but truly cannot get a better edit at this point and really want to keep up with the whole image-a-day thing I have going on for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon. I do rather like how the border turned out though.

Day 3 of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon. I wanted to do something with the women of Merlin, and quickly discovered that the ratio of "evil" to "good" is quite, er, something.

You could say women tend to equate to evil on the show, or you could say that the women tend to get majorly screwed over, which leads to some interesting decisions and life choices, which may or may not tend towards vengeance. Or, at the very least, being seriously pissed off.

Anyway, here are some of the pissed off magical women of Merlin... :)

Day two of [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon. I could not resist doing something for Xena. It and Highlander were pretty much my first fandoms, and I wrote more for it than I will ever admit to here and luckily won't have to since my site is dead and no one can find them anymore.

I know the joke is old at this point but, really, Xena totally turned me gay. Or at least got me oh so very interested in hot chicks that are awesome fighters. I mean, really, look at Ephiny and tell me you can't see how much she rocks.

cat_77: Old Kingdom Series (Lirael)
Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 09:15 pm
This year, I have a goal for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon: one image-like creation thing of awesome women per day. Let's see if I succeed?

My first entry is from the Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix. If you have not read these, you totally need to. Lirael is a woman who thought her future was laid out for her, but discovers that is one thing that, despite her best attempts, is definitely not for her. She sees the past and deals in Death and rather wanted neither, but this is what she was given. She also kicks ass.

So I have been attempting to draw on the iPad lately, with mixed results. The stuff I posted here was made using the .harmonious app, and I have since tried the one called Paint Gallery. It was okay, but has this little glitch in which it randomly closes everything without saving and pisses me off to no end (twice now when I was almost done - really annoying).

Anyone have any other ideas? I have only used the free apps to date, but would not be adverse to shelling out a couple of bucks if anyone has a particularly glowing review.

Two things make a post? Three if you count rambling explanation?

a) Wanted to use new icon of Lirael from the Old Kingdom Series because it is an awesome series that everyone should read.

b) I played around with the .harmonious app again on the iPad. I, er, actually lost the first try at this via stupidity, but recreated it again via stubbornness.

c) Art-Like Thing:

Title: Fading into Destiny
Fandom: Merlin
Spoilers: Myths, that Arthur wears a swishy cape
Media: Digital, .harmonious app for iPad
