Happy Birthday
threnodyjones!I tried to think of something appropriate to gift you with: an embarrassing story, a mention of how many fucking years we have known each other, that sort of thing. The I realized that would totally authorize you to do the same to me and kicked that to the curb.
Therefore, in honor of you teaching me the wonders of vodka, a brief rec list of such based on what's been in my cupboard that I remember:
Reyka - $$$ - The first "good" one you turned me on to. Crisp and can be drank straight or mixed with others.
Svedka - $ - Basic of the basics without a burn or feeling like you are drinking paint thinner.
Boru - $$ - OMG love this one. Irish vodka.
Irish vodka. You can taste the grain and it is pretty.
Godiva - $$$ - Not the liqueur, the vodka. It is
Godiva. Nothing else need be said.
Chopin - (no idea,
wolfie74 got it for me) - 80 proof and you definitely taste the burn. Add ice if you'd like to taste more than burn.
And that, my dear, is my less-than-professional recommendation/review of the stuff. There's also a 100% Polish, 100% potato one that begins with an "L" that I can't spell or pronounce but is good, mid-price range, and used to make what we call "Polish Lefse of the Drinkable Variety."
Have a good B-Day, and try as many as you like of whatever you like!
