I have two stories ready to post with a third just shy of being there.

I am not mentally capable of figuring out the formatting and tags and such right now.

No, seriously, I got confused trying to figure out how to cut up my meal for dinner tonight. And this is just the beginning of the stress rainbow that is to be the next few months of my life.

Four more days. I can do this.

Yes, the list of "special circumstances" that I'll still handle for a while is growing, but I no longer care.

Please don't let them change it on me again? I have a status meeting tomorrow.

One more week and then I finally get to do ONLY the job I was promoted to three months ago.

Instead of both that job and my old one.

Just one more week.

I can do this.

For the love of ice cream, don't let them fuck this up and delay it any further.

There are no words. No, seriously, no words. Because, if I begin, I have no idea where I will actually end.

So the post about getting my car back? I did, I totally did.

Too bad it wasn't actually fixed.

Same problem, only seemingly more severe. Brought it back, they've been testing it and think they figured it out for reals now. I have another rental while they wait for what is the equivalent of the CPU for all the power relays and they apparently had to call the national center to figure that out.

ETA of a day or two, thus the other rental so that I can get to work to have meetings with the big-big bosses for the next three days. We usually get to wear jeans, but have to dress up for them. Guess who just figured out all her dress pants are too small? Guess who will be wearing skirts and dresses for the next three days? Guess who is indulging in chocolate milk because that will so totally help the issue? Guess who is tempted to augment said chocolate milk with something closer to 80 proof?

Have been sick with a fever for three days. Overtired, overworked, etc as seen in most recent locked post. Currently sipping on a large "pony" (tea cup full of vodka) after having to explain the concept of attaching an assignment to an email to a teacher and not just sharing the doc on Google Docs to Eldest and have him argue that she would have gotten it so it's not his fault. Oh, and I have a rental car while mine is in the shop while they attempt to discover what the fuck is wrong with the shifter and its lack of actual shifting.

Yuletide sign ups are now open.

I think, perhaps, that I shall wait until tomorrow to sign up.

Recap of today:
Got up after not sleeping.
Woke kids for school, one of which had not set his alarm.
Worked for less than two hours.
Power went out.
Phones died.
Sat in room with locked windows with no AC or lights for five hours.
Got released to go home.
Read fic.
Made bechemal sauce for first time.
Used it for mac & cheese.
Trawled the internet for more fic.

This time it wasn't our server room on fire. The transformer for the company across the street blew, and took our power with it. They kept us there "just in case" power came back up. With no AC, no lights, no ventilation, no microwaves to heat food from the dying fridge for lunch. Yep.

And I haven't had any alcohol yet.

Dear City of B'ville,
Did you really need a night crew to work on the bridge that adjoins a residential area? You couldn't just extend construction by, like, a day since it's planned for a month anyway? You really desperately needed to pound and thud and growl and beep non-stop from nightfall to sunrise, using powersprayers and gravel and who knows what else? Oh, and to have your workers shout back and forth to each oth at odd hours, let us not forget that too.

So tired. The brief bit of sleep I got, I dreamt that I called in to work and then kept getting calls from a coworker that I know doesn't have my cell but it made sense at the time. Oh, and while wandering, trying to answer a phone with an interesting password lock thingy, happened across the perfect couch/chair thing for our room being left out by one of the uppity richer people a few blocks away as a "grab it if you want it" item. Now debating looking up if there are garage/estate sales this weekend... just in case.

Sleep. Need it. Mochas. Need them. Crap tons of work. The only thing I'm likely to get.

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] threnodyjones!

I tried to think of something appropriate to gift you with: an embarrassing story, a mention of how many fucking years we have known each other, that sort of thing. The I realized that would totally authorize you to do the same to me and kicked that to the curb.

Therefore, in honor of you teaching me the wonders of vodka, a brief rec list of such based on what's been in my cupboard that I remember:

Reyka - $$$ - The first "good" one you turned me on to. Crisp and can be drank straight or mixed with others.

Svedka - $ - Basic of the basics without a burn or feeling like you are drinking paint thinner.

Boru - $$ - OMG love this one. Irish vodka. Irish vodka. You can taste the grain and it is pretty.

Godiva - $$$ - Not the liqueur, the vodka. It is Godiva. Nothing else need be said.

Chopin - (no idea, [personal profile] wolfie74 got it for me) - 80 proof and you definitely taste the burn. Add ice if you'd like to taste more than burn.

And that, my dear, is my less-than-professional recommendation/review of the stuff. There's also a 100% Polish, 100% potato one that begins with an "L" that I can't spell or pronounce but is good, mid-price range, and used to make what we call "Polish Lefse of the Drinkable Variety."

Have a good B-Day, and try as many as you like of whatever you like!

Ingredients:
- 1 mug almost full of milk
- 2 heaping spoonfuls of Ghirardelli double chocolate cocoa mix
- 1 fuckton of alcohol of your choice

Instructions:
1) Heat milk
2) add chocolate
3) add booze
4) stir
5) try to forget Day of Suck

I have found vodka works best, be it Svedka, Boru (seriously awesome on its own, btw), Godiva, or others. Honey brandy is decent as well, if you so prefer.

Did I mention today sucked like a giant sucking thing?

Did I mention this is not just for Mondays?

Yes, you were grounded from the internet. That's why you were not able to get on earlier.

Yes, it was an automatic lockout that died at midnight.

Yes, you were caught playing Starcraft at two in the morning during finals week.

No, the excuse "if you really didn't want me on, you would have found a better way to block me" is not going to fly.

No, the teacher that emailed us directly to remind us about your test tomorrow, mentioning you by name, taking the time to individually email us, did not "accidentally mean some other kid."

In short, when your mother wakes at 2 am hearing the game you have been banned from because you keep nudging up the volume to try to keep yourself awake, you are screwed.

I have not watched all the Merlin eps from last season.

I read spoilers about the Lancelot ep and it made me cringe and not want to watch it, and then I found other things to occupy my time instead if moving on to the next ep.

I will probably not watch the new episodes immediately. I need to at least watch the two part finale first.

Shh, it's like a secret or something.

As is my current Avengers obsession.

Also a secret? After the last two weeks of times interesting in the Irish sense of the word? I may have consumed more than a fair share of brandy and auto correct is currently working overtime on this post.

Dear whoever it was at work that thought they would check out my iPad while I was away from my desk:

- It was in my locker for a reason.

- That reason was not for you to dig in there and look for it.

- I do not usually lock my locker while at work what with us being in a secured area of a secured building and me usually being at my desk.

- Said secure area has cameras everywhere.

- My iPad searches for wi-fi every time I open Safari. It will stack the notices if opened more than once.

- There were three notices.

- My iPad was falling out of my bag, which was moved.

- My purse was not touched.

- My family pictures were.

- This is after my Egyptian prayer sheet was thrown away last week, leaving a small square free of dust in its place.

- What gives you this right?

- I mean other than being an ass?

- Kinda wish I had something more interesting than a PG-13 Avengers pulled up.

- I need a new job.

- In the interim, we are watching old Doctor Who eps whilst waiting for the new ep of Alphas. We each have our own ways of dealing with things, Sci-Fi is mine.

Realized I had not posted anything that was not a whine or something completely random for quite some time. Sorry. Wrote this explanation-type thing, but deleted it because, really I don't want to read/write about this crap, so I doubt anyone else does.

Suffice to say, work = stress right now. Thought I had maxed out on that, but am pleased to announce that it is apparently possible to go above and beyond and reach whole new levels if the universe really wants you to.

I have poked at a few stories, but haven't made much real progress as of late. Instead, I am spending my lunches at work escaping by reading fic on my iPad, taking quiet glee in reading stuff that would make most of my bosses and coworkers squirm, right under their noses. Maybe when the stress dies down a little? Like when when the thing that was supposed to happen in March to reduce our workload by half finally happens? Or is that just crazy talk?

Well then, that's that, there's an update. Back to watching one of the most horrifically edited versions of X-Men I have ever seen in my life. Or possibly just mindlessly poking through Tumblr for a while.

Oh, though if anyone has any suggestions for fic I can read in an hour or less that won't make me gouge out my eyes, let me know? Rating is not an issue, though I do prefer plot and characterization over just about anything else, including porn.

Apologies in advance for the snarky/bitchy/whiney posts and/or tweets that may occur this week. Huge changes of the sucky kind are hitting at work, as well as boss's boss's boss coming for a visit, as well as many other fun and/or exciting (less the fun and exciting) happenstances all hitting at once.

On the up side, at least I have a job to bitch about?

We are currently listening to Metallica and tying the Christmas tree back together since we can't find any superglue. Youngest has fetched [personal profile] wolfie74 an ale and me a cider and no one has been seriously hurt yet, though it was a near thing.

I think I may have talked her out of trying to hang the tree from the ceiling, but now Youngest is wondering what else we can burn in the fireplace, so...

If you want pictures, check the Twitter account for the full effect of what is currently being called "Frankentree"...

Edit: just realized my Twitter account was locked down a few months ago due to work stuff. Let's see if these links work? Christmas Fail. Fail, part 2.

Okay, so I have been *really* good about not posting from work for months, but this rather pushed me over the edge.

At lunch, I pulled up the local news site. I read an article about the upcoming fight on a gay marriage amendment and then made the mistake of reading the comments. Dear sweet deity of your choice, someone stop me from ever doing this again as it will always end with me far too angry to function.

The main issue in the comments is whether this is a legal or religious issue and shouldn’t this maybe be resolved with laws for “unions” and religious rules for “marriages” which has a valid point. And then some idiot comes up with this:

"Just take the poor 11 year old boy that now thinks he needs a sex operation- this kid is going to end up severely depressed or committing suicide. All because his two “mommies” are so warped in their thinking that they could handle having children. If you can’t normally have children between 2 particular types of people then you shouldn’t be having any in your family. It goes against any natural order of things – animals don’t do it and they have very little ability to think like we do. It’s not normal."

Insert the blind rage at the blind hate here. Just read the last two sentences of that. This comment appears to strongly imply that my partner and I are not only not normal, but against the natural order of things. So it is unnatural for two people who love each other to raise children in a loving home and care for them and provide for them and try to teach them such things as acceptance and to treat every person with a basic common level of decency and respect?

I am stopping here so that I do not go off completely, especially when I still have another three hours worth of work to finish up.

And yes, I should have known better than to read the comments, especially considering this is the same site that threw a hissy fit over the 35W Bridge being lit in rainbow colors for Pride… right up until it was explained any group can request such changes so long as they go through the proper channels and so it was lit up pink for the Susan Komen Ride just last month.

I was a big girl today. We got big girl furniture, I cleaned the vents like a big girl, and even got the extremely strange baseboard/hot water heat thing started up (which, BTW, confused [personal profile] wolfie74, so that was extra bonus points for me for figuring it out).

We also went to the big antique store near us and found some glasses we like but, most importantly, we found my pony! Now, every time you hear me bitch that "I want a pony!" you can imagine me sipping vodka out of this:

It was pretty cheap (like $10) as it was a single cup and saucer and not a complete set. It says it's Wedgewood something or another but, really, it's my damn pony, coming home stay. *nods*

Now, let's see if we can get some fic writing done and call this a truly productive day?

[/randomness]

So, yeah, writing. As you can see from the plethora of stories being posted, that's coming along well.

I have several fics in various stages of completion but every time I start to work on one something happens like a kitty walks by or I get a sudden craving for chocolate and go to seek it out or I even get yet another idea to poke out and then nothing ends up completed (save for, possibly, the consumption of said chocolate).

I figure it's a lot of stress stuff playing a role due to huge changes at work and home and such and that it should hopefully get better after presentation #2 and workload shift around next week, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Right now, in lengths varying from a page to 17 pages, I have: a fic for the Gwaine Quest challenge, a gender-bender Arthur/Merlin/Gwaine, an AU H/C Arthur/Merlin, an AU WTF is this with reincarnations and such with various pairings, and a Sherlock H/C Friendship one. These are just what I am actively working on and yet somehow making no actual progress on. The actual WIP folder is much, much larger. And scary.

Bleh.

In continuing levels of productivity, I think I am going to close down and charge the laptop, drink a glass of chocolate milk, and finish reading "Sabriel" instead.

So I managed to irk [livejournal.com profile] threnodyjones today which, to be fair, is not only fun but like totally a goal after all these years. *g*

TJ had the most awesome response to the irking that I simply must share:
I <strike>♥</strike> you.

I told her I want it on a t-shirt. She made me an icon instead (which I kind of sort of left on my work email instead of forwarding home where I can actually post). Seriously? Awesome. Totally made my day after a morning of suck.

And in other news, moving commences next week and final paperwork registration crap commences tomorrow afternoon, as does a full week + a half day off of work. Who knows? I might even get some [livejournal.com profile] fringeminibang editing in along with the moving!

Edit: Ha! She emailed them to me!
